State baseball roundup: Bishop Kelly, Skyview among 5 Valley teams in semifinals

4A BASEBALL

Bishop Kelly 4, Twin Falls 3: Hadley Smith’s RBI single on a 1-2 pitch in the top of the seventh sent Bishop Kelly to a first-round victory over Twin Falls at the College of Southern Idaho.

The sixth-seeded Knights will play Pocatello — an 8-1 victor over Wood River — in the state semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday.

Cooper Cammann earned the complete-game win for the Knights, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking one.

Smith finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs, and Cammann, Ian George and Dean Herkenrath added one hit apiece.

Skyview 12, Moscow 4: Joe Bernal pitched four scoreless innings of relief to help No. 1 seed Skyview advance to the state semifinals with a victory against Moscow at the College of Southern Idaho.

The Hawks will take on Blackfoot — a 3-1 winner over Bonneville — in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday.

Eight different Hawks registered at least one RBI in the win, with Vinny Caringella, Henry Downey and Tyler Russell notching two hits apiece.

3A BASEBALL

Homedale 7, Fruitland 2: The Trojans moved into the state semifinals with a victory over conference rival Fruitland at Northwest Nazarene University.

Homedale will play defending state champion Marsh Valley at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a spot in the state championship on the line.

Dillon Fine pitched a complete game for the Trojans, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out seven. Lukas Hall led the Trojans at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance and knocked in three runs. D’Orr Packer added two hits and Payton Fine went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

The Grizzlies will play Gooding in the consolation bracket.

Sugar-Salem 8, Payette 6: Payette’s seventh-inning rally came up short in a first-round loss to Sugar-Salem at Northwest Nazarene University.

The Pirates, who scored two runs in the top of the seventh, will try to keep their season alive against Timberlake at 11 a.m. Friday in the consolation bracket.

Senior Cameron Strong paced the Pirates at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

2A BASEBALL

Nampa Christian 3, Firth 2: The two-time defending state champions scored all three runs in the top of the fifth inning, and that proved to be all they needed in a first-round victory at Orofino High.

Nampa Christian will face Orofino — a 12-0 winner over Declo— in the state semifinals at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Landon Mills earned the victory for the Trojans, throwing 1 1/3 innings of relief with zero runs and zero hits while striking out two. Brayden Schaefer accounted for two of the Trojans’ three hits, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Marsing 10, Bear Lake 4: Five different players had multiple hits as Marsing took down Bear Lake in the first round at Orofino High.

The Huskies advance to the state semifinals, where they will face Malad at 5 p.m. Friday.

Cache Hance, Dresden Wood, Xavier Delgadillo, Luke Steinmeyer and Jace Chadez each registered two hits for Marsing, which scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning.

1A BASEBALL

Idaho City, Vision Charter meet in consolation final: In a pair of elimination games, Idaho City defeated Glenns Ferry 18-10 and Vision Charter topped Horseshoe Bend 13-3 in five innings at Church Field in Lewiston.

The Wildcats and Eagles will now play for the consolation title at 9 a.m. Friday.

No statistics were reported for either elimination game.

1A SOFTBALL

Greenleaf, Vision Charter eliminated: The Greenleaf Friends and Vision Charter softball teams were eliminated from the state tournament at Gals Quad in Caldwell.

The Grizzlies lost their first-round game 4-2 to Clearwater Valley, rallied for a 12-5 win over Glenns Ferry and were then ousted 13-9 by Kendrick.

The Eagles also lost their opener, 7-4, to Kendrick, before crusing to a 25-10 victory over Lighthouse. They were eliminated after a 6-1 loss to Vision Charter.
