State basketball rankings: More than 30 Section V boys and girls teams ranked

Basketball rankings are out for this week from the New York State Sports Writers Association and Section V is doing its part to contribute, especially in girls basketball.

The highest-ranked Section V teams among the boys is Lyons at No. 2 in Class C and Avoca/Prattsburgh at No. 2 in Class D.

For the girls, Webster Schroeder is at No. 3 in Class AA and Waterloo is at No. 3 in the Class B poll.

NY state boys basketball rankings: Section V schools

Class AA

Aquinas is in the No. 17 spot and is the only ranked Section V school in the AA poll, which has Long Island Lutheran in the top spot.

Unbeaten Victor is in the honorable mention category.

Class A

East High is in the No. 17 spot of the rankings, joined by Greece Athena at No. 24, Irondequoit at No. 25 and Monroe at No. 30.

Honorable mention goes to Pittsford Mendon, Pittsford Sutherland and Webster Thomas.

Nazareth of CHS is No. 1.

Class B

Batavia is at No. 15, Hornell is No. 20 and Bishop Kearney is No. 27 in Class B, which has Poly Prep of AIS at No. 1.

At honorable mention is Newark and Waterloo.

Class C

Lyons is in the No. 2 slot, Rochester Academy is at No. 12, York is No. 13 and Geneseo and Avon are tied for the No. 20 spot. Delhi of Section IV is No. 1.

Honorable mention goes to Bolivar-Richburg, Byron-Bergen, Cuba-Rushford, Oakfield-Alabama, Red Creek and Warsaw.

Class D

Avoca/Prattsburgh is No. 2 behind No. 1 South Kortright/Andes of Section IV. Jasper-Troupsburg is No. 16 as the final ranked Section V team of this class.

At honorable mention is Batavia Notre Dame, Harley Allendale Columbia and Honeoye.

Class AA

Webster Schroeder has climbed to the No. 3 spot in AA, which has Long Island Lutheran in the top spot.

Bishop Kearney, the defending champ in AA, is at No. 5, Penfield is No. 8, Fairport is No. 13 and Hilton comes in at No. 25.

There are no honorable mentions for the girls polls.

Class A

Canandaigua is ranked No. 11 in Class A, behind No. 1 St. Joseph by the Sea of CHSAA. Pittsford Sutherland is No. 16.

Class B

Waterloo is at No. 3 behind No. 1 Dalton School of AIS and Livonia is in the 10th spot. Palmyra-Macedon is No. 15 and Aquinas is No. 24.

Class C

Canisteo-Greenwood is No. 8 in C, which has Millbrook of Section IX at No. 1.

At No. 10 in East Rochester, Geneseo is No. 13, Gananda is No. 16, Lyons is at 20 and Clyde-Savannah is No. 22.

Class D

Keshequa is the highest ranked Class D school at No. 8 with West Canada Valley of Section III at No. 1.

Also for Section V, Andover/Whitesville is No. 16 and Fillmore is No. 19.
