All-State Basketball: De Smet's Garry, Dakota Valley's Bruns and Mitchell's Hinker earn POY honors

Player of the Year honorees Kalen Garry of De Smet (Class B), Isaac Bruns of Dakota Valley (Class A) and Caden Hinker of Mitchell (Class AA) spearhead the 2021-22 All-State boys basketball teams announced today.

The teams are selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

Garry, a four-time All-State selection and three-time Player of the Year, leads the Class B team that includes fellow repeat first-teamer Joe Sayler of White River.

Other repeat selections in Class B are Rett Osthus of De Smet, Malek Wieker of Aberdeen Christian, Caden Foxley of Platte-Geddes, Grant Luikens of Potter County and Daniel Mitchell of Gregory.

Bruns leads the Class A honor squad along with fellow repeat first-teamer Oliver Vincent of Sioux Valley. Tash Lunday of Flandreau, a three-time honoree, and Cael Lundin of Tea Area are also repeat Class A selections.

Hinker made the Class AA team for the third-straight year with a second-straight selection to the first team. Mikele Kambalo of Sioux Falls Washington and Lincoln Kienholz of Pierre each moved up from the second team to the first team this winter.
