Girls volleyball: States-bound Irondequoit, Wayne, Harley-Allendale-Columbia win regionals

Clinching the program's first-ever state tournament trip became a goal of Harley-Allendale-Columbia's as the season progressed.

Coach Amy Colosimo's Wolves began with smaller goals like communicating on the court. Winning the league and repeating as Section V champions were added the longer their undefeated season lasted.

"After that, everything has fallen into place," Colosimo said.

Senior Tori Colosimo was outstanding during H-A-C's marathon win over Section VI's Chautauqua Lake in Friday's NYSPHSAA Far West Regional in Hamburg. The Wolves (23-0) won a five-set marathon, edging the Thunderbirds 18-25, 25-11, 25-17, 11-25, 15-11.

"At this point we're just ready to have fun and enjoy every moment," coach Colosimo said. "They always play much better when they're having fun.

"It's a great group. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them."

Two more Section V teams are also headed to states. Ella Cooley's clutch serving helped Irondequoit (21-1) erase a 7-10 deficit in the fifth set to edge Section VI's Sweet Home in Class A. Wayne (18-3) defeated Section VI's Springville in Class B.

Fairport lost its Class AA match to Section VI's Lancaster in five. LeRoy fell to 2021's Class C state champion Portville (Section VI) in straight sets.
