STATE BOUND: Pawhuska girls do the hustle into Big Dance

For the second time in three years an area prep basketball team is only three wins away from its first-ever state title.

With Saturday’s 47-44 win against the Merritt Oileretts, the Pawhuska High Lady Huskies earned their first-ever appearance in the state tourney.

Pawhuska starts Class 2A state girls quarterfinal play on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Preston High, at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds (Intersection of I-40 and I-44).

The other state quarterfinal contests are Amber-Pocasset vs. Hartshorne (4:30 p.m.), Dale vs. Hooker (6 p.m.) and Warner vs. Howe (9 p.m.).

The state semifinals are planned for early Friday afternoon and the championship game on Saturday morning.

Miya Curry helped power Pawhuska to a halftime lead; Hannah Reynolds scored 16 points to lead Pawhuska (25-4).
