All-State champs and pivotal pins: South Shore high school wrestling All-Scholastics
Spring is here and the wrestling mats are now rolled up and tucked away to the corner of the gymnasiums as the season has come to an end.
There were plenty of standouts on the South Shore this winter. Bridgewater-Raynham won the Division 2 South Sectional title. Nathan Leach, who qualified for nationals, led the way for the Trojans. Whitman-Hanson's Charlie Lussier had a record-setting season.
Brockton was the runner-up at the Div. 1 South Sectionals while Duxbury was No. 2 in Div. 3 South.

GIBSON AKOH
Thayer Academy
The senior finished second in the ISL and fifth in New England for the Tigers. … At the 175-pound weight class, he qualified for nationals with one win and one loss before suffering an injury. … In his entire career, he was a two-time runner up in the ISL. … Akoh is the “clear most valuable wrestler on our team with almost every win by fall,” said Thayer coach Marc Rando. ... He's also a three-sport athlete playing baseball and football.
SYDNEY DIAUTO
Silver Lake
Diauto finished as the Girls All-State Champ at the 106-pound weight class. ... She also finished sixth at the Div. 2 South Sectionals. ... Her record this season was 24-14 overall and 11-2 against girls... She was also a Girls AllSstate finalist in 2022. ... Diauto, "put together three winning seasons in the mixed 106 weight class and attained her Girls State Championship to conclude an outstanding career," said Silver Lake coach Wayne Reissfelder. ... She plans to pursue her passion as an entrepreneur in the field of health of fitness, wellness, and nutrition.
JADEN HINTON
Oliver Ames
The senior heavyweight's name will go down in the books as he finished undefeated at 9-0 in the regular season and 18-5 overall. ... He finished first at the Div. 2 South Sectionals, fourth at Div. 2 States, and eighth at All-States. ... He's a captain who was also a Hockomock League All-Star with a 54-15 career record. ... "Once he was cleared from injury and returned mid-season, he was lights out for us every time he was on the mat," said Oliver Ames coach John McKeon.
ANTHONY INNELLO
Duxbury
The senior finished with 106 career wins for the Dragons. ... This season he finished 34-4, took first place at Sectionals and third place at States. ... He's was the leader of the Patriot League Keenan Division champs. ... He "helped lead the team to a sectional title last year and a second-place finish this year," said Duxbury coach Kyle McCarthy.
AMAN KHALIL
Brockton
The junior took first place at the Div. 1 South Sectionals at 170 pounds. ... He's a two-time Div. 1 South Sectional Champion. ... His career record is 61-13 for the Boxers. ... “Aman was of the first kids in the Brockton Youth Wrestling Program. He has had some of the best coaches assist him from Brockton to his club MetroWest Coaches. Aman was a scorer on the mat and was our go-to for pin points against teams," said Brockton coach Deshawn Fentress.
LINDSAY LAWS
Silver Lake
Laws won her second straight Girls All-State Championship this season as a junior in the 160-pound weight class. ... Last season, she was the All-State Champ at the same weight class. ... This year she had a 12-1 record against other girls with a 14-2 career record against girls. ... "Lindsay's hard work has made her one of the most dominant girl wrestlers in the state. She pinned all her girl state tourney opponents in the first period, not giving up a point," said Silver Lake coach Wayne Reissfelder. ... She's also a member of the National Honor Society.
NATHAN LEACH
Bridgewater-Raynham
The senior is an All-State champion at 195 pounds and competed at Nationals at Virginia Beach. ... He's a Div. 2 South Sectional Champ and a Southeast Conference All-Star. ... He also was on the football team and spends his free time playing video games with friends.
CHARLIE LUSSIER
Whitman-Hanson
Lussier finished off his sophomore year with a fourth-place finish at the New England Wrestling Championships in Providence. ... At the 106-pound division, Lussier finished the season with a 53-4 record. ... He also holds the W-H single-season record with 53 wins. ... He now has has a career record of 89-9. ... Patriot League All-Star.
ANTHONY MANN
Hanover
He's only a junior, but he's been a Mann amongst boys this season as the Div. 3 State Champion. ... Mann finished first South Sectionals, and fourth place in All-States. ... He's already a two-time State Champ with another year left. ... "Anthony is a year-round wrestler that has earned the right to win. His dedication and commitment have ensured that he is a champion," said Hanover coach Timothy Brown.
DREW MCGOURTY
Braintree
The junior was a freight train for the Wamps in the 152-pound weight division. ... He finished as the Div. 1 South Sectional, State, and All-State Champion. ... His season record was 53-1 and he's a two-time South Sectional champion. ... "Drew is truly a special wrestler as he is unique in both his aggressiveness and unpredictable style. Often he overwhelms opponents and scores a lot of points within the first minute of a match," said Braintree coach Brian Caffelle.
HEATH MCGILVRAY
Plymouth South
McGilvray finished with a 42-10 record and took first place at the Div. 2 South Sectionals. ... He also finished second place at States and sixth place at All-States. ... He's a National Honor Society member. ... He will be playing football at Mass Maritime next fall.
SARAH MCLAUGHLIN
Scituate
She's only a freshman but is already making her name known in the wrestling world. ... At 113 pounds, she has a 44-8 mixed record and 14-1 against girls. ... She became the second girl to win boys sectionals in the state history. ... She's a Patriot League All-Star and was voted the Girls All-State Most Outstanding Wrestler. ... She's a two-time Girls All-State champion and has yet to give up a point in the postseason.
DAVID MURPHY
Scituate
The junior captain had quite a season for the Sailors. ... He finished with a 36-5 record and as a Patriot League-All-Star. ... He won the Kevin Curtis and Cohasset Invitationals. ... At the 152-pound weight class he finished as the Div. 3 Sectional Champion and was state finalist.
MATTHEW PATTERSON
Middleboro
As only a freshman, Patterson already has put his name on the map as one of the best on the South Shore. ... He finished with a 53-8 record. ... Had set school records for wins (53) and pins (40) in a single season. ... He's a two-time South Shore League All-Star and the first freshman to qualify for New England Tournament in school history. ... "He is on pace to break the school career win record next season. ... The 14-year-old team captain was an incredible leader, spending his free time coaching the youth wrestlers at tournaments," said Middleboro coach Derek Seibert.

The junior has a had a good season wrestling for the Wildcats as for the second straight time he finished first place at the Div. 2 States competition (182 pounds this year, 170 last year). ... He's undefeated in the Bay State League and has a 49-5 record. ... He also finished first at the Div. 2 Central Sectionals. ... He also does Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo and is is a wrestling coach for younger kids.

The senior led the Dragons with 101 points and 30 pins on the season. ... Shortt finished first place at Sectionals. ... He also had a 30-7 season record at the 126-pound weight class. ...He's a "great competitor and leader of the team. Pinned everyone in the first period at sectionals," said Duxbury coach Kyle McCarthy.

Swan finished his high school career as a Div. 1 South Sectional Champion at the 106-pound weight class. ... He has 75 career wins and was 44-10 on the season. ... He finished fifth place at States for the Wildcats. ... He played a big part of turning around their 1-17 team season last year to 19-12 this year. ... "Nick set the tone for us in every dual meet competing hard in the first weight class. The rest of the team fed off his intensity. Led team in wins (44) major decisions, tech falls, dual meet points, and tournament points," said Weymouth coach Danny Murphy.

Von Magnus held his own on a talented Trojans wrestling team this season. ... At the 120-pound weight class, Von Magnus finished as the Div. 2 South Sectional Champion and a State Champion. ... He also wrestles for the Metro West wrestling club and CBC wrestling. ... The sophomore also practices mixed martial arts at South Shore Sports Center.

(Winn)ing has been all that the senior has done at the 120-pound weight class. ... With already a Div. 1 State Championship under his belt from last season, this year he finished second at States. ...Winn is a two-time South Sectional Champ. ...."Bubba represents the lineage of a strong wrestling family. His two other brothers (Aiden and Devin) helped Bubba develop fierce talent in this sport. At the 147-pound weight classm the senior was a Girls State finalist. ... She finished her career with a 60-45 record and as a four-time Girls States place winner and finalist. ..."
