State Class A baseball: MACCRAY beats New Ulm Cathedral for fifth place
Jun. 17—ST. CLOUD — Brooks Asche's RBI single on a 1-1 count brought home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning at the MACCRAY baseball tournament beat New Ulm Cathedral 8-7 late Wednesday at Joe Faber Field.
The hit enabled MACCRAY to clinch the Class A state baseball consolation championship.
Gavin Husman, Isaac Strommer, Dreyer Homan and Joe Heidecker all had two hits for the Wolverines.
MACCRAY (17-7) had 10 hits, eight walks and a hit-by-pitch. New Ulm Cathedral (23-5) had seven hits and drew 13 walks.
New Ulm Cathedral advanced by beating South Ridge of Culver 8-4 at Bob Cross Field in Sauk Rapids.

MACCRAY plated four runs in the top of the first inning and got a nice performance on the mound from Dreyer Homan to beat Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale in consolation semifinals at Bob Cross Field in Sauk Rapids.
Homan pitched 6-1/3 innings to get the win, striking out nine and walking no one. He allowed two hits and no runs.
