State of Confusion gives peek at lower South End restaurant ahead of opening

State of Confusion, a sister concept of Stir Charlotte, is set to open in LoSo Village on Monday.

General manager Brent Reid told Charlotte Business Journal the decision to expand State of Confusion from Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the Queen City was an easy one. State of Confusion signed on for the 9,500-square-foot restaurant space in early 2022. More than $3 million has since been invested into the Charlotte location, according to a previous CBJ story.

“In Charlotte, this is one of the fastest-growing areas, and we’re kind of at the front end of that,” he said. “This is an area oversaturated with breweries, so being able to be a different concept that is culinary focused will create the foundation I think we need to be long lasting.”

The brand’s flagship restaurant opened in Chattanooga in 2018 inside a former salvage yard known as Estate of Confusion. Reid said eclectic elements from the salvage yard were saved and used inside the restaurant. It was important to bring a similar vibe to the Charlotte location, he said.
