State employee retirement income stagnant for 22 years

I am 83 years old and retired from the Texas Department of Insurance in 2002. Today my retirement income is the same as it was 21 years ago. That's because legislators haven't increased state employee retirement payments since 2001, even though they have raised their own retirement benefits twice in the same period. This has caused many of the thousands of state retirees to struggle to pay bills when an important part of their incomes is stagnant.

The first step for relief is to convince Gov. Greg Abbott to add the issue to the current or next special session. Several dozen legislators have filed relief bills and/or petitioned the governor to expand the agenda. I represent a group of state employees trying to expand that number. We urge state retirees to contact their legislators to lobby for them to join our campaign. It is a worthy cause.

It does not make sense, close the border

I am a 72-year-old Vietnam veteran and a lifetime resident of El Paso. I question the actions of our city leadership along with our national elected officials pertaining to this senseless, out-of-control crisis on the border.

I am a product of a parent who legally immigrated and willingly adopted the ideology, Constitution and patriotic love for America. Why are immigrants given rights to choose not to follow the rules to enter here and not staying at the designated shelters that have been purchased with our taxes?

They are guest and should submit to what we are offering. Why are we giving up our recreational facilities and venues to accommodate them? City leaders are more concerned about these individuals than us taxpayers. Why are we not offered the opportunity to vote on this matter?

Who is looking out for our well-being? I see immigrants roaming about my streets, my businesses, and my neighborhood. I do not feel safe. This problem is not about purchasing more shelters and spending more citizens taxes but about stopping the profuse bleeding at the border. I believe in legal immigration, close the border!

Answer on Election Day

I hope that President Joe Biden and the left liberals are correct in transitioning America. The vision of a utopian America sounds appealing. Solar, wind, electrical clean energy, changing American history, controlling the weather, immigration, electric cars on and on. However, Biden's policies are having the opposite negative effects.Transforming America is making life difficult for most Americans who love this great and wonderful country. Is changing the country worth it?

There are many questions put to the administration and there are few answers.

Will the problems we have continue in the new utopian America? Those who do not believe so will vote for more of the same. Those who want to stop the problems will vote otherwise. We shall have all the answers in next national election.
