State football rankings: East High joins top 10; two Section V teams make debut
The newest state football rankings from the New York State Sports Writers Association were released on Wednesday and a couple of Section V teams made big jumps.
Here are the Week 5 rankings:
Class AA
University Prep (5-0) remains at No. 8 while McQuaid (4-1) jumps to No. 17 from No. 21.
Victor (4-1) and Rush-Henrietta (3-2) remain honorable mention.
St. Anthony (3-1) of CHSAA is ranked No. 1.

Class A
East/WOIS (5-0) moves up a spot to No. 9 from No. 10 and Canandaigua (4-1) also moves up one, to No. 12 from No. 13.
Webster Schroeder (5-0) jumps to No. 19 from the No. 22 spot. Honorable mention includes Brighton (4-1), Greece Athena (3-2), Hilton (4-1), Irondequoit (3-2) and Spencerport (3-2).
At the top of Class is Somers (4-0) of Section I.
Class B
Honeoye Falls-Lima (5-0) stays at No. 8 and Batavia (5-0) remains at No. 12.
Honorable mention includes Geneva (3-1), Monroe (3-2) and Wayne (3-2).
Maine-Endwell (4-0) of Section IV is ranked No. 1.
Class C
Attica (2-2) is the top-ranked Section V team in this class at No. 14 (from No. 16) and Le Roy (3-1) is No. 18, jumping from No. 22.
Joining the rankings for the first time is Penn Yan/Dundee (4-1) at No. 22 and East Rochester/Gananda (4-1) at No. 25. Midlakes (4-1), Lyons/Sodus (2-2) and Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry (3-1) are all honorable mention.
Schuylerville (5-0) of Section II is ranked at the top.
Class D
Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (5-0) and Alexander (4-0) stay at Nos. 2 and 8 this week, respectively.
At honorable mention is Avon (2-3), Batavia Notre Dame (3-2), Caledonia-Mumford/Byron-Bergen (3-2) and York/Pavilion (3-2).
Tioga (5-0) of Section IV is ranked No. 1.
8-man
Canisteo-Greenwood (5-0) remains the No. 1 team and Bolivar-Richburg (5-0) moves into the No. 2 spot from No. 3.
Pembroke (4-1) remains at No. 8 and Red Jacket (2-3) remains honorable mention.
