State football rankings updated: East and Canandaigua climb; Victor joins in

The new state football poll was released on Wednesday and several area teams made quite the leap.

Victor is ranked for the first time this season in Class AA and Batavia moves into the top 10 in Class B.

Here’s how the Section V teams look in this week’s New York State Sports Writers Association poll for Oct. 12.

Class AA

UPrep (6-0) remains at No. 8 for a second straight week and McQuaid (5-1) jumps to No. 14 from the 17 spot.

Victor (5-1) joins the poll in a tie for No. 25 with Ward-Melville of Section XI after being honorable mention the last couple of weeks. Rush-Henrietta (3-3) remains honorable mention.

St. Anthony-CHSAA is the No. 1 team.

Class A

Webster Schroeder moves to No 16 from No. 19 in Class A.

East/WOIS (6-0) moves up a spot to No. 8 from No. 9 and Canandaigua (5-1) moves to 11 from No. 12.

Webster Schroeder (6-0) jumps to No. 16 from No. 19 and Brighton (5-1), Greece Athena (4-2), Hilton (5-1) and Spencerport (3-3) are all honorable mention.

Somers of Section I and Garden City of Section VIII are tied at No. 1.

Class B

Batavia (6-0) moves up to No. 8 from No. 12 after Honeoye Falls-Lima (5-1) falls to 21 from the No. 8 spot last week. Batavia plays at HF-L on Friday night.

Monroe (4-2) joins the poll at No. 17 after being honorable mention last week and defeating HF-L.

Palmyra-Macedon (3-3) and Wayne (4-2) are honorable mention as Maine-Endwell of Section IV remains at No. 1.

Class C

Attica (4-2) moves to No. 12 from No. 14 last week, Le Roy (4-1) is No. 16 and Penn Yan/Dundee (5-0) moves to No. 19 from No. 22.

Letchworth/Warsaw/Perry moves to No. 24 from honorable mention and inexplicably, East Rochester/Gananda (5-1) falls from No. 25 to honorable mention even after it won last week.

Lyons/Sodus (3-2) and Midlakes (4-2) are honorable mention as Schuylerville of Section II remains No. 1.

Class D

Oakfield-Alabama/Elba (6-0) remains at No. 2 and Alexander (5-0) remains at No. 8.

Avon (3-3), Batavia Notre Dame (3-2), Caledonia-Mumford/Byron-Bergen (3-3) and York/Pavilion (4-2) are all honorable mention. Tioga (6-0) of Section IV remains at the top of the poll.

8-man

Canisteo-Greenwood (5-0) remains the No. 1 team and Bolivar-Richburg (5-1) falls to No. 7 from No. 2 after it lost to Canisteo-Greenwood, 36-6, last weekend.

Finney/Northstar (3-3) and Red Jacket (3-3) remain in honorable mention.
