State patrol looking for witnesses to two crashes that claimed six lives on I-25 in Weld County

Jun. 14—Investigators are looking for witnesses to two separate wrecks on Interstate 25 in southwest Weld County that claimed a total of six lives.

The first crash occurred at 1:31 p.m. Monday on I-25 at mile marker 243 near Colo. 66 in Mead.

According to a news release, investigators believe a 1999 Kenworth semi truck rear-ended a 2015 Ford Edge before then hitting another vehicle, forcing that vehicle to hit another car.

All five occupants of the Ford Edge were killed. All of the occupants, two males and three females, were from Gillespie, Wyo.

Officials do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The Ford was slowed for traffic in the area when it was hit.

The second crash was on I-25 at mile marker 235 at Colo. 52 west of Dacono at 2:22 p.m.

A person driving a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle was northbound and changing lanes multiple times when he struck a semi truck's trailer in the center lane and then struck a second semi trailer in the right lane. The motorcyclist rolled, slid into the middle lane, and was run over by the second semi.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 30-year-old man from Northglenn, was killed.

The first semi did not stop at the scene, while the second semi pulled over and cooperated with authorities.

Investigators believe the motorcycle was traveling at high speeds at the time of the crash.

The Weld County Coroner's Office will release the names of the victims once they are identified.

Both crashes remain under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.

Anyone with information about either crash is asked to contact Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Winsett at 970-506-4999 or the dispatch line at 303-239-4501 and reference case No. 3A221000.
