State police arrest Galveston woman on drug-related felonies
May 11—A Galveston woman who called police about being battered was arrested on drug related charges on Friday.
Indiana State Police troopers arrested Michelle Dawn Simpson, 38, for two Level 6 felonies, possession of methamphetamine and neglect of a dependent.
She was booked in Cass County Jail at 12:50 a.m. Saturday morning.
No charges are listed in court records yet.
She faces sentences of six months to two-and-a-half years on each charge.
When state troopers arrived at Simpson's Galveston home about 10:30 p.m. on May 7, they felt she seemed intoxicated, said Sgt. Tony Slocum of the Indiana State Police Peru district.
Simpson allegedly had trouble putting together coherent sentences.
She did have injuries, but it wasn't clear from what she said if they were from that night or an earlier night.
Officers couldn't prove battery based on what Simpson said, and there wasn't evidence besides her word and some injuries, Slocum said.
A trooper who responded to the home reported seeing methamphetamine in sight and a 9-year-old child sleeping near it, leading to the arrest.
The child was released into the custody of a relative.
