State Police: ATV overturns in Tioga, Pa., killing 79-year-old driver

The driver of an all terrain vehicle was killed Monday when his 2008 Polaris Ranger 700 crashed and overturned in Tioga County, Pa., Mansfield-based Pennsylvania State Police said.

State Police said 79-year-old Gary C. Belz Sr. of Tioga Township was operating a northbound ATV on Mitchell Creek Road at about 2:30 p.m. Monday when the vehicle gradually went off the roadway for unknown reasons and overturned.

Investigators said Belz was ejected in the crash, which took place approximately 87 feet south of Pieri Lane.

Police said Belz sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tioga County Coroner's Office.

State police said Belz was not wearing the ATV's equipped safety belt at the time of crash on a road laned for vehicular traffic.

Tioga County Ambulance responded to the emergency call, state police said.
