State police identify driver, passenger in high-speed chase, shootout

State police have identified the driver of a stolen 2018 Dodge Ram that was killed when he fled from troopers and exchanged fire with them Thursday, officers said.

Isaias Garcia, 35, was the driver. Garcia is from Rowlett, Texas, according to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Police accuse Garcia of causing three wrecks. According to the release, he struck a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup and then a 2012 Hyundai Tucson.

"After the second collision, the 2018 Dodge Ram eventually ran off the southbound shoulder of I-65 and overturned. Garcia was pronounced deceased at the scene," according to the news release. Police do not yet know Garcia’s exact cause of death. An autopsy is pending.

Terrell Dry Jr., 46, was the passenger in the 2018 Dodge Ram. He was injured and transported to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment. He is from Palmetto, Georgia.

The driver of the 2014 Dodge Ram was also injured, and first responders transported him to Baptist Medical Center South for treatment.

"The pursuit initially began in Autauga County, however, first crash occurred near the 178 mile marker, the second occurred near the 180 mile marker both in Elmore County, and the final crash occurred near the 173 mile marker in Montgomery County," according to the news release.

In a previous news release, officers said that a suspect in the 2018 Dodge Ram exchanged gunfire with the police.

"Gunfire was exchanged between an occupant in the Dodge pickup and ALEA Troopers," according to the release.

No officers were harmed in the event. Law enforcement is not releasing any more information about their investigation at this time.
