NORTH EAST — Pennsylvania State Police troopers are continuing their investigation into a Saturday morning traffic accident in North East Township that caused the death of a female pedestrian.

The 35-year-old woman, whom state police said lived in the North East area, died after she was struck by a GMC Yukon in the 10100 block of West Main Road, which is Route 20, in the township, authorities reported Monday. The accident was reported on Saturday at 6:19 a.m.

According to state police, the woman, whose name was not immediately available Monday, was walking with a friend in the right eastbound lane of Route 20 when she was struck by the GMC as it was traveling east on the roadway. The driver stopped after the accident and remained on scene as state police responded, the agency reported.

A witness reported seeing the two pedestrians walking in the middle of the right eastbound lane before the accident occurred, according to state police.
