State police looking for suspects accused of hurling rocks, bricks onto Erie interstates

Pennsylvania State Police troopers are hunting for vandals after objects including bricks and bags of rocks were hurled at vehicles traveling along two interstates in the Erie region from overpasses in recent days.

Vehicles were damaged by thrown objects in all of the incidents, but it was unknown whether anyone was injured, according to Trooper Andrew Hacke, spokesman for state police Troop E in Lawrence Park Township.

According to state police, objects have been thrown from overpasses along Interstates 79 and 90. One of the incidents occurred on Monday at about 3:30 a.m., and four others happened between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

The three locations where the objects were thrown were the Lake Pleasant Road and Millfair Road overpasses along I-90, and from the Old State Road overpass on I-79.

State police said throwing rocks, bricks or other objects onto a vehicle occupied by one or more people is a first-degree misdemeanor that is punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Throwing objects from an overpass or other location onto a roadway is a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine, the agency reported.

Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is asked to contact state police at 814-898-1641 or Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS.
