State police probe 2-vehicle crash that killed woman, injured others in North East Township

An Erie man charged with having inappropriate sexual contact with a boy at Harborcreek Youth Services on Jan. 3 is now accused by the Pennsylvania State Police of sexually assaulting another boy at the Harborcreek Township facility.

NORTH EAST — Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a two-vehicle accident in North East Township on Sunday morning that killed a New York woman and injured several others.

The accident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of East Lake and Gay roads.

According to state police in Erie, a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 75-year-old Webster, New York, woman was traveling along Gay Road and was stopped at the stop sign at East Lake Road when it began traveling through the intersection and was struck by a 2014 Dodge Ram that was traveling west on East Lake Road, which is Route 5.

The Chevrolet rolled and came to rest in a grassy area, and the Ram came to rest in the roadway, troopers reported.

A 79-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Chevrolet, whose name is not being released pending confirmation from the Erie County Coroner's Office, was killed in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:22 a.m. Sunday, according to the Coroner's Office.

The driver of the Chevrolet was flown by helicopter to UPMC Hamot, and two other passengers were taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash, according to state police.

Two children, ages 6 and 9, who were passengers in the Dodge were taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment of what troopers said were suspected minor injuries. The male driver of the Dodge and an adult male passenger, both of Broadway, Virginia, were not reported injured, according to troopers.
