State police are seeking young recruits for Camp Cadet in Berks
May 26—State police at Reading-based Troop L are looking to recruit young people for Camp Cadet in Berks County .
The goal of the weeklong summer camp is to introduce participants to the diverse criminal justice system and establish a positive relationship with law enforcement personnel. The program will be held Aug. 12 to 19 at Camp Manatawny near Douglassville.
Cadets will participate in a variety of activities and events throughout the week, including marksmanship, swimming, horseback riding, volleyball and kickball. They will also have an opportunity to learn about many units within the state agency like bomb squad, patrol, K-9, aviation and computer crime investigators.
Other presentations include water rescue and fire service.
The program is designed for students between the ages of 12 and 15. All camp activities are supervised by a counseling staff of state and local law enforcement personnel.
Candidates must reside in Berks, Lebanon or Schuylkill counties, the areas served by Troop L.
Applications can be found at campcadettroopl.com or by stopping at any of the Troop L stations in Reading, Hamburg, Jonestown, Frackville and Schuylkill Haven. Applications must be returned by May 31.
The cost for camp is $200 plus a $10 application fee.
