UPDATE: SFD confirms explosion, kerosene drum at Eagan Street fire

UPDATE: Dec. 29,4 p.m. Shreveport Fire Department Chief Assistant Clarence Reese stated that there was an explosion.

The fire department was able to identify a drum of kerosene. Reese said that some kerosene leaked into a nearby storm drain.

The Department of Environmental Quality was called to the scene with a vacuum truck to clean the area of any hazardous substances.

Original Story: A Wednesday afternoon fire ended with Louisiana State Police looking into the source of the blaze.

At 1:31 p.m. Shreveport Fire Department received a call to the 500 block of Eagan Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire in a detached garage behind the two story historic home.

Fifteen units were called to the scene, and one eye witness stated that a flash of fire exited the garage after canisters were discovered around the property.

This fire is under investigation.
