State Rep. Stender announces reelection bid in 108th

Feb. 20—SUNBURY — State Representative Michael Stender, on Tuesday, announced his bid for reelection in Pennsylvania's 108th District.

Stender, of Sunbury, is seeking the Republican nomination in the April 2024 Primary Election. The 108th state House District includes all of Montour County, Sunbury; the townships of Delaware, East Chillisquaque, Lewis, Point, Rockefeller, Rush, Turbot, Upper Augusta, and West Chillisquaque; and the boroughs of McEwensville, Milton, Northumberland, Riverside, Snydertown, Turbotville and Watsontown in Northumberland County.

"During my first term in the state House I have worked with like-minded conservative colleagues to hold the line on taxes, back our workers, small businesses, and farmers, improve public safety, support strong government reforms, defend our rights, and provide top-quality constituent services to all residents," Stender said. "I'll continue to work hard to serve my constituents and to fight for their priorities in Harrisburg and here at home."

Stender has spent his career protecting families and serving his community as a firefighter and former emergency medical technician with the Americus Hose Company in Sunbury.

"I prime-sponsored legislation to enhance county jail safety, security, and infrastructure to deter and punish future escapes, and to help equip counties and their prison guards with the resources needed to keep themselves and our communities safe," Stender said.

He also supported legislation seeking to make Pennsylvania more competitive for job-providers by reducing taxes and burdensome regulations.

"Expanding job opportunities and economic development across our state is vital for those working hard to provide for their families," Stender said. "I will continue to be a strong conservative voice for our workers, small businesses and taxpayers by supporting smart policies that make Pennsylvania more competitive in the global marketplace."

Stender is a lifelong resident of Sunbury, and a graduate of Shikellamy High School and Bloomsburg University. He opposes the House majority's effort to promote and expand abortion in Pennsylvania. He has also sought to defend Second Amendment rights.

Stender's community involvement and leadership experience extend beyond his work as a legislator and first responder. He served as a member of the Shikellamy School Board and as a committee member for the Boy Scouts of America Susquehanna Council Troop 331.
