State Road 46 between Volusia, Brevard and Seminole counties remains closed due to flooding

Tropical Storm Ian brought record-breaking amounts of rainfall across Central Florida, leading to flooding and closures of some of the area’s busiest roads.

State Road 46, which runs through Seminole, Volusia and Brevard counties, is one of those roads. As of Wednesday morning, 10.8 feet of water covered part of the road near the St. Johns River and Lake Harney, according to the National Weather Service.

Water levels are especially high near Jungle and Prevatt roads in Geneva, so much so that “it may become impassable.” The area remains closed and under a flood warning until further notice.

“Standing water on secondary roads near the river deepens to more than three feet in some areas,” a Wednesday morning update from NWS stated. “Flooding becomes more significant to structures and marinas from above Lake Harney to the Lake Jesup area.”

According to the Florida Department of Transportation’s interactive map, motorists traveling from Mims in Brevard County to Sanford in Seminole County, can drive north on Interstate 95 and then south on State Road 415, or head south on Interstate 95 and then west on State Road 50.

Seminole County officials tweeted  that water flooding S.R. 46 “will take days to recede for safe travel conditions.
