State Science and Engineering Fair seeks judges for next April in Lakeland

The State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida, which takes place in April at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, is looking for more than 300 judges.

The State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida is seeking more than 300 judges in 13 scientific disciplines for both the junior and senior sections.

The fair, in which middle school and high school students from across Florida compete, will be held at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. Judging takes place April 3 from roughly 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than 800 students representing all districts in Florida will be in Lakeland to compete for more than $1.2 million in awards, scholarships, internships and prizes, Central Florida Tourism and Sports Marketing said in a news release. These students are the top winners in 37 regional Florida science fairs.

Judges must have one of the following qualifications: related professional experience beyond receiving their bachelor's or master's degree, or have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent (D.O., Ed.D., D.D.S., D.V.M., etc.); or a current graduate student with research experience.

Judges must agree to the ethics statement posted on the website and must review the Policies and Procedures for Judging at the SSEF of Florida.

At Lakeland Linder Amazon to partner with Lakeland aviation school to train aircraft mechanics

Judges may include university faculty and scientists, industrial engineers and scientists, representatives of private and federal research centers and agencies, medical researchers, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students. SSEF of Florida will not reimburse travel expenses, but does provide parking and breakfast, breaks and lunch between judging rounds.
