State Sen. Cesar Blanco, who has represented El Paso in the Texas Senate since 2020, announced his bid for reelection.

Blanco, D-El Paso, vowed to keep fighting for working-class Texans who continue to worry about rising taxes, healthcare access and school safety, he said in a Thursday morning news release.

"El Pasoans and West Texans are hardworking and resilient," Blanco said. "But too many families are still struggling to make ends meet, or get the healthcare they need, or worry about their children's schools and futures."

"Together, we are moving El Paso and West Texas forward (but) we are not done," he continued. "That is why today, I am proud to announce my reelection campaign to continue our hard-fought progress and to keep fighting for our fair share of resources and standing up for our border and West Texas communities."

Blanco, raised in El Paso, joined the U.S. Navy after high school. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. He went on to work for three members of Congress representing El Paso and West Texas before mounting his political career.

Over the years, Blanco has come to be recognized as a staunch supporter of progressive values while likewise garnering friendships across the aisle, which have allowed him to work in a bipartisan manner and see more bills across the finish line — in the latest legislative session alone, Blanco was able to pass more than 30 bills.

Along with his accomplishments during the 88th Legislative Session, including being recognized for his work to address food insecurity across Texas, Blanco is fresh off of serving as a Senate juror during the recent impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

"I humbly ask for your continued support," he added, "so together we can keep building a brighter and more optimistic future for all El Paso and West Texas families."
