State senator gets $5,000 donation to fight food insecurity in Augusta area

Kroger recently gave $5,000 to Sen. Harold Jones II to donate to organizations fighting food insecurity.

Jones last week was touring a new Kroger on Eisenhower Parkway, which is set to open next spring. He donated the money to the Augusta Dream Center Inc. and Savannah Riverkeeper.

“Through Kroger’s generous donation, we are able to support two incredible organizations dedicated to eradicating food insecurity,” Jones was quoted as saying in a news release.

In 2021, Jones introduced legislation to create the Senate Study Committee on Improving Access to Healthy Food, which held hearings across the state. In 2022 and 2023, Jones introduced legislation to create the Georgia Food Security Advisory Council to create policy proposals. Both years it has cleared the Georgia state Senate, but not the House.
