State swimming and diving: 4 Brevard titles in 1A, 2A; Weisel with 5 career

Brevard County high school swimmers won seven state medals Friday at the Class 1A state meet and added 37 Saturday in Class 2A in Stuart.

Elliot Weisel of Rockledge High became the Brevard high school boys swimmer with the most career individual state championships at five, repeating in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle swims. he passed Skylar Stroman, who won one with Melbourne High and three for Satellite from 2003 through 2005.

The Raiders finished second in the boys 2A team standings Saturday with 188 points. Bishop Kenny, with 295.5 points, won the 2A title.

Weisel won the 200 free in 1:40.45 and the 500 in 4:30.23, both Rockledge High records. He earned automatic all-America status with a preliminary time of 4:27.05 in the 500. He swam a time qualifying for all-America consideration in the 200 preliminary at 1:38.62.

His teammate, Eli Rollen, won the 100 backstroke (48.57 seconds) and was the runner-up in the 100 free (45.23). Both of those were also school records. The Raiders 400 free relay, where the two were joined by Sebastian Trujillo and Zach Quattrocchi to swim 3:10.86, a fifth school record; Rollen, Trujillo, Weisel and Chaz Schuijt combined for a school record in the 200 medley relay as well, 1:34.59

In Friday's 1A meet, Holy Trinity's Elle Jacobsen won a diving title two days after signing to compete beginning next year for Davidson College. She finished just ahead of Edgewood's Lana Schmadeke.
