State-Title Repeat Bid Ends Early For Edina Girls Hockey Team

EDINA, MN — The Edina girls hockey team — a perennial juggernaut — fell short of retaining its Class AA state title over the weekend as it fell 2-1 to eventual champions Minnetonka in the semifinal round.

The Hornets trailed 2-0 after two periods before freshman Tori Anderson scored Edina’s only goal. Anderson’s goal was assisted by senior Jane Kuehl and sophomore Hannah Halverson, according to the Minnesota State High School League.

Edina High School — led by Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year and Ms. Hockey Vivian Jungels — was among the favorites to win the Class AA state championship after scooping the title in 2021.

The Hornets finished the 2021-22 season as the third-best girls hockey team in Minnesota, after beating Gentry Academy 3-0 in the third-place game.

The Edina High School girls hockey team ended the season with a record of 27 wins and three losses, according to the Star Tribune’s MN Girls Hockey Hub.
