State tournament roundup: Aberdeen Central knocks off Harrisburg

Mar. 20—RAPID CITY — Aberdeen Central staved off Harrisburg, 53-51, to pick up a Class AA state tournament win on Friday.

Noah Behrends recorded 13 points and seven rebounds for Aberdeen Central. Alec Voegele added nine points and eight boards, while Sam Rohlfs chipped in 10 points and eight boards. Harrison Reede scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the win.

Connor Geddes paced Harrisburg with 18 points. Andrew Walter and Blaze Lubbers chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Aberdeen Central (12-11) plays Brandon Valley at 1 p.m. Saturday. Harrisburg (16-7) plays Mitchell at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

St. Thomas More 35, Vermillion 32

SIOUX FALLS — St. Thomas More held off Vermillion on Friday to advance to the Class A fifth-place game.

Ryan Wojcik paced the Cavaliers with 13 points and seven rebounds. Cade Kandolin added 11 points in the win.

Vermillion's Jakob Dobney finished with a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double to go with three steals. Connor Saunders added 10 points. Jake Jensen recorded seven rebounds.

St. Thomas More (20-4) plays Chamberlain at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Vermillion (22-2) plays Winner at noon Saturday.

Sioux Falls Christian 64, Dell Rapids 52

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Christian knocked off Dell Rapids to advance to the Class A state championship game.

Xavier Van Beek scored 19 points in the win. Nathan Koole added 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Brooks Nelson added 10 points for the Chargers.

Colin Rentz added 19 points and Connor Rentz finished with 13 points for the Quarriers.

Sioux Falls Christian (19-5) plays the winner of Dakota Valley vs. Sioux Valley at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Dell Rapids (17-7) plays the loser at 5 p.m. Saturday.

ABERDEEN — De Smet pulled away in the second half to down Viborg-Hurley in the Class B state tournament on Friday.

Kalen Garry scored 24 points in the win. Damon Wilkinson added a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Cody Cavanaugh chipped in nine points and eight boards.

For Viborg-Hurley, Gradee Sherman scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Hayden Gilbert added nine points, while Grant Mikkelsen scored eight points.

The Bulldogs (24-1) plays the winner of Aberdeen Christian vs. Dell Rapids St. Mary at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Cougars play the loser at 5 p.m. Saturday.
