State troopers say drunk driver crashed into their patrol car on I-94 in Scio Township

SCIO TOWNSHIP - A drunk driver struck a Michigan State Police patrol car along the highway early Monday morning, causing minor injuries to the trooper inside the vehicle, according to state troopers.

They said over Twitter that a state trooper from the Brighton post had pulled over to investigate a drunk-driving crash on westbound Interstate 94, near Zeeb Road, at about 1:36 a.m. Monday when the second crash happened.

Troopers said the patrol car was blocking part of the lane for the tow truck when another intoxicated driver struck the patrol car while the trooper was inside.

The trooper was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The suspect, 33, is from Canton Township and was arrested for suspected drunk driving.
