State troopers make local girl’s Christmas wish come true
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — Michigan State Police troopers recently had the chance to make the holidays a little more special for a local girl.
On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the State Trooper Outreach Partnership (STOP) teamed up with the Michigan State Police St. Ignace and Gaylord posts to fulfill a Christmas wish for 9-year-old Summer Lahaie.
According to the Michigan State Police, Lahaie has a terminal illness and one of her Christmas wishes was to participate in Shop with a Hero with state troopers. F/Lt. Nathan Groya, the post commander at the St. Ignace Post, learned that Lahaie also wanted a MacBook for Christmas for schoolwork and gaming. The troopers worked together to make both her wishes come true.

The St. Ignace Post collected money to put towards a new MacBook, while Groya contacted Best Buy, and STOP covered the rest of the expenses.
Troopers gave Lahaie a police escort to Walmart in Cheboygan, shopped with her, had a pizza party, wrapped presents and gave her the MacBook.
Organizers said a special thanks goes to Walmart of Cheboygan, Best Buy of Traverse City, Duncan City Pizza of Cheboygan, State Trooper Outreach Partnership - Gaylord Chapter, and the Michigan State Police St. Ignace and Gaylord posts for the donations and hard work on this event.
