Plenty of South Plains history was made Saturday at the UIL state wrestling tournament in Cypress.

Frenship, a fifth-year program, netted its first individual champion in Audrey Lockhart. Lubbock High saw its first female grappler win a title in Mohagany Casel. In its second season, the Lubbock-Cooper girls team was Class 5A runner-up.

Lockhart, who will continue her wrestling career at Wayland Baptist, etched her name in the Tigers' record book by winning the 165-pound title. The senior beat Converse Judson's Samaria Barnett in a 7-3 decision. Lockhart finished the season 50-1.

Casel added to the LHS wrestling legacy with her 185-pound championship. She improved to 39-3 with a 3-2 decision over Justin Northwest's Trinity Washko.

Taylin Silco's second-place finish led the way for Cooper to nab the runner-up trophy. Silco (34-4) lost by fall in three minutes, 49 seconds, to Azle's Annabelle Davis in the 145-pound title match.

Two third-place wrestlers added to the Lady Pirates' 67.5 points. Northwest won the team title with 71 points.

Cooper's Avery Mitchell (185) and Zoe Bennett (132) each took third after one loss apiece in state matches. Kayla McLearen and Lexia Suarez competed for the Lady Pirates as well.

All five of Cooper's state qualifiers are sophomores.

The area had one individual champion on the boys' side. LHS' June An took the 157-pound title after a medical forfeit by Amarillo Tascosa's Landin Lamberth. Tascosa won the team title with 112 points, ahead of Lucas Lovejoy's 109.

An, who is also signed to Wayland Baptist's wrestling program, finished the year 45-2.
