Statesville man charged with statutory rape of a child: Police

STATESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Statesville man is facing charges in connection to multiple sexual assaults that happened between 2021 and 2023, authorities said.

According to Statesville Police, on April 17, officers responded to a report of a sexual assault that happened along Mooring Drive. Yulian Cardona-Ibarra, 34, is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile between February 2021 and February 2023.

The juvenile was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center. During the interview, the juvenile disclosed multiple incidents of sexual abuse, police said.

Cardona-Ibarra has been charged with the following:

  • Eight counts of statutory rape of a child

  • Indecent liberties with a child

Cardona-Ibarra is being held on a $200,000 secure bond.
