Statewide silver alert canceled in Kansas after missing man is found safe

Update: Officials said Thursday morning that Ray Newman had been found in Republic County and is safe.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation issued a statewide silver alert for a 77-year-old man displaying early signs of dementia last seen Wednesday afternoon.

Ray G. Newman of Manhattan was last seen at 4 p.m. driving east from Riley, Kansas toward Manhattan near the 6400 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard in Manhattan.

He is likely driving a 2011 silver Hyundai Santa Fe with Kansas tag 815NXM. The SUV has white sticker decals in its rear window, including one that says “German Shepherd Dad.”

Newman is about 5 feet and 11 inches tall and weighs around 180 pounds. He has hazel eyes and gray hair and was last seen wearing a blue, long sleeve pearl snap shirt, jeans and brown cowboy boots.
