Statue of Confederate General Robert E Lee Removed From US Capitol

A statue of Confederate General Robert E Lee was removed from the US Capitol Building early on Monday morning, December 21.

Virginia Gov Ralph Northam announced on Monday that the statue, representing Virginia among a group of figures honoring the 13 original colonies, was removed overnight from the National Statuary Hall Collection at the Capitol.

Sen Tim Kaine of Virginia shared this footage on Monday. Kaine was present at the statue’s removal alongside Virginia House Rep Jennifer Wexton and Rhode Island Sen Sheldon Whitehouse, who wrote on Twitter, “Change has come to the Capitol.”
