Staunton and Augusta County under freeze warning Wednesday night

You don't need to be psychic to sense that the future — at least the immediate future — will be cold.

The National Weather Servicer issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook on Wednesday. A Freeze Warning will be in effect from 11 p.m. Wednesday night to 10 a.m. Thursday morning.

Overnight low could be 22⁰F

"Areas of frost between 11pm and midnight," the warning reads. "Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 22. Southwest wind 3 to 7 mph."

Thursday will eventually warm up to a high of around 50, then temps will dip back to 28 overnight.

NWS says the culprit for the cold air is a strong high-pressure system now across the lower Mississippi River valley and southern Plains that is moving eastward. Frigid temperatures will blanket an area from central Texas to Pennsylvania and New Jersey most of Thursday, bringing with them widespread threats of freezing and frosts.

By Friday, you can expect high temps back in the 60s, maybe even near 70 by Sunday. But for now, bring in those pets and plants.
