FISHERSVILLE – A Staunton family welcomed the first baby of 2023 at Augusta Health. A press release from the hospital announced that the New Year’s baby, Ricco Greyson Via, arrived at 4:39 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 1.

Ricco Greyson Via is 18.25 inches long and weighs 5 pounds, 4 ounces.

Originally from Port Orchard, Washington, the family now lives in Staunton. Ricco is not just Augusta Health’s first baby of 2023, he is the first child for her parents, Hailee Potter Simmons and Aldo Via, according to the release.

"The infant's name does not have any family significance. They just liked the name," said Kristen Printy, Augusta Health's community engagement specialist.

Augusta Health's Dr. Molly McQuigg delivered the newborn. Nurses caring for the family include Elena Washington, Betsy Cox, Mary Frazier and Julie Roberts.
