Staunton man killed in weekend crash after being ejected from car

STAUNTON — Virginia State Police said a man was killed Saturday morning after losing control of his vehicle outside of Staunton, a press release said.

Police said the victim was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix and headed north on Frog Pond Road shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Saturday when the car went off the right side of the road. The driver, 60-year-old Dwayne L. Maricle of Staunton, overcorrected, police said, sending the car off the left side of the road and into a fence before overturning.

Maricle, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. Police said he died at the scene.

The crash, which took place about a half-mile north of Morris Mill Road, remains under investigation.
