Staunton resident questions the 'new direction' as part of Rosenberg's departure: Letter

Staunton’s city manager was recently forced to resign. During an exit speech, Mayor Oakes mentioned that his departure is part of the city taking a “new direction.” Apparently the very competent Mr. Rosenberg was not a good fit for this new direction.

My question is: What new direction is our city taking? Does it involve more much-needed emphasis on affordable housing? Are we going in a new direction that addresses prison reform with true solutions to our mental health crisis? Will our city’s new direction include a logical strategy to control the next COVID strain? How about the council’s unanimous approval of an Equity and Diversity Commission: Will that topic be part of the new direction? Will transparency and civically-minded governance be part as well? I hope so.

I do not see how letting go of a respected and talented city manager will solve our multitude of problems, but we’ll soon see.

In the meantime, thank you, Mr. Rosenberg, for your service to our city.
