Staunton seeking interim city manager as Rosenberg on his way out of the job

STAUNTON — Based on a late release Tuesday from the city detailing its agenda for today, it looks like city council will address what's going on with the city manager position.

The agenda for the meeting — which will be held this afternoon — includes two new agenda items involving current City Manager Steven Rosenberg, who appears to be on his way out. Council is planning to go into a closed meeting with legal counsel and then appoint an interim city manager, according to the city's agenda.

So, yes, it does appear that Staunton is moving on from Rosenberg, as reported last week by The News Leader, but some citizens are fighting back with a "Stand with Steve Rally" at 12:30 p.m. at City Hall before the meeting starts.

According to Virginia code, while notice of meetings should be posted at least three working days prior to the meeting, it does not require an agenda.

City council will first interview candidates for the clerk of council position before moving on to agenda items involving the city manager.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. today in the City Council Caucus Room located on the first floor at City Hall, located at 116 W. Beverley St.

Open portions of the meeting will be live streamed on the city’s webpage at www.staunton.va.us/council and on Comcast channel 7.

There will be no opportunity for public comment.

Steven Rosenberg joined the city in 2013 as the deputy city manager and was appointed city manager in the summer of 2019.
