Stay Hungry: Cuban dinner, Dishes for Wishes and more in Evansville food news

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — We're bringing you Tri-State restaurant happenings and food news you need to know. Here's the latest:

DiLegge’s Italian Restaurant, which has operated on North Main St. for 36 years, has announced the closing of its dining room for walk-in dining. The banquet room and catering department are still in operation and will remain so. DiLegge’s owner Dan DiLegge is retiring and exploring options for the restaurant. We’ll announce future plans when we know more.

Granted will host its 7th annual Dishes for Wishes fundraiser on Saturday, March 26, from 6-10 p.m. at the Vanderburgh 4-H Center auditorium. Restaurants providing tastings at the gala include Biscuit Belly, Dishes by Dani, Bauerhaus Catering, Gayla Cake, Sweet Schmitt’s Candy, 3 Chick’s Fudgery, Joe Brewski and many others.

Only 300 tickets are available. Tickets are $40 or a reserved table for 10 is $500.

The 4-H Center is at 201 E. Boonville-New Harmony Road.

Mo’s House will once again host Drag Me to the Weekend Brunch on Sunday, March 27, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. A $40 ticket includes entry into the drag show by Amber Lights and the Dollz of the District and five small plates of brunch food.

Mr. D’s Drive In in Henderson is now open for breakfast daily. The restaurant, which is known for fried chicken and burgers, now opens at 5:30 a.m. and serves breakfast until 10:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. On the menu are breakfast sandwiches on Texas toast, hash brown bowls, biscuits and gravy, a BLT and French toast sticks.

Schymik’s Kitchen will be hosting a Havana Night Cuban Upstairs Dinner cooked by Miami native Danielle Siciliano Hodge and David Hodge on Wednesday, March 29. On the menu are a beef empanada; shrimp ceviche with citrus and mango; Caldo Gallego soup with white beans, yucca, pumpkin and ham; churrasco skirt steak with black beans, rice and plantains; and torrejas (think French toast) with berries. Tickets are $99 per person.
