Here’s where to find restaurant lunch for $10. Steak, too. And in the Fort Worth area

The locally owned Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House restaurants are helping diners save money.

To celebrate 45 years in business — yes, it’s been that long — Hoffbrau is offering a $10 lunch special weekdays until 4 p.m.

In the era when even burgers or plate lunches cost twice that much, the idea of a $10 steak lunch with fries and salad sounds almost unimaginable.

But that’s what Hoffbrau is serving Mondays for the next month or so, maybe longer.

The other weekday $10 specials are just as surprising: chicken-fried steak Tuesdays, grilled chicken Wednesdays, chicken tenders Thursdays and fried catfish or seared tilapia on Fridays.

The specials are good at the Hoffbrau at 4613 Denton Highway, inside Loop 820 in Haltom City, and also at the other two Tarrant County locations: 8501 Benbrook Blvd. (U.S. 377), Benbrook, and 700 Texas 114 West, Grapevine.

This $10 lunch deal can’t last forever.

But it’s a reminder that Hoffbrau’s regular lunch specials sell for only about $12-$16, a reasonable price for an entree; a baked potato or other side dish; and soup or Hoffbrau’s traditional salad with house vinaigrette.

Hoffbrau has a side dish that marks it as truly Texan, unlike those out-of-town LongHorn or Roadhouse chains.

It’s a pepper-jack cheese chile relleno with pico de gallo.

To make your entree genuinely Texan — a server in Haltom City taught me this — stack the relleno on top of a lunch grilled chicken ($11.99) or steak ($12.99-$15.99).

Hoffbrau has always had its own Texas dishes at dinner, including Shiner Bock candied bacon, jalapeno-glazed pork chops and chicken or sausage with Dr Pepper barbecue sauce.

And yes, the owners, the Fogiel family, have missed their Fort Worth customers from the old South University Drive location, which closed in 2020 after a rent dispute and is now Maria’s Mexican Kitchen.

All the TCU Horned Frogs and football memorabilia from that 1982-vintage location is in storage for whenever a new location is found, Rainey Fogiel said.

Meanwhile, the Benbrook location is a 10-minute drive down the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

Plans for a Mansfield location have been shelved due to rising construction and interest costs, Fogiel said.
