Steak ‘n Shake had this Johnson County location for decades. But now it’s closing
The Johnson County Steak ‘n Shake off Shawnee Mission Parkway and Metcalf Avenue will see its final day on Tuesday.
A manager at the location told The Star that the restaurant would close at the end of the day. Owner Paul Ledgard of Ledgard Restaurants LLC could not be reached immediately for comment Monday.
The restaurant, at 7510 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Overland Park, has been open for decades and serves steakburgers, Frisco melts, fries and shakes.
The Kansas City area still has locations in Olathe at 12209 S. Strang Line Road, Gladstone at 4929 N. Old Pike Road, and in Kansas City near Liberty at 9500 N.E. Barry Road.
Steak ‘n Shake was founded in Normal, Illinois, in 1934 and began to spread across the country.
But business for the chain appears to be on the decline. The company announced in 2020 that it would close several dozen locations and continued to shutter more in the following years.
