Steaks, sushi and samosas: These 19 restaurants opened around Sacramento in October

The end of October brought winter chill to Sacramento, but the region’s dining scene has stayed hot.

These 19 restaurants opened around the Sacramento region in October 2023. Two new restaurants opened in Folsom and Rocklin, while Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, Roseville, Auburn, Citrus Heights and Fair Oaks each added one.

Ahipoki (7460 Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 130, Elk Grove): Design your own Hawaiian poke bowl with albacore, blazing salmon or unagi (eel) at Ahipoki’s third area location, which joined those in Arden Arcade and Roseville.

Butcher & Barrel (723 K St., Sacramento): Kevin and Cindy McBride’s swanky steakhouse near Downtown Commons welcomed guests on Oct. 13 with dry-aged rib-eyes as well as more casual Apple Hill salads and maple fried chicken sandwiches.

Coyote Pizzeria (150 Sacramento St., Auburn): Pizzas centered around chorizo, al pastor or barbecued are worth howling at the moon for at Coyote, which moved into Old Town Pizza’s original location in Old Town Auburn.

Dragonfly Donuts (5049 College Oak Drive, Suite D, Sacramento): There’s more than just doughnuts and Peet’s Coffee at this bakery near American River College; Dragonfly began serving muffins, cinnamon rolls and breakfast sandwiches on croissants on Oct. 9.

Delish Pizza (8128 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights): Delish’s new Citrus Heights location joins the local chain’s family-friendly pizzerias in Richmond Grove, Rosemont, Gold River, North Highlands, and Woodland.

Epoch Casino (11275 Folsom Blvd., Rancho Cordova): A new card room that replaced Magnolia House Casino on Oct. 20, Epoch Casino includes a restaurant and bar with chicken sandwiches, steaks and a buffet.

House of Pizza (5514 Pacific St., Suite 100, Rocklin): Originally founded in Lincoln, this popular Placer County pizzeria also makes samosas, churros and “pizza roll” sandwiches slathered with your choice of sauce.

Immortal Cafe & Supply (1111 H St., Suite 102, Sacramento): A vegan-friendly cafe and outdoor gear shop from former Canon, Ro Sham Beaux wine bar and Temple Coffee Roasters employees, Immortal opened on Oct. 20 in downtown Sacramento’s The Offices at Retro Lounge.

Island Fin Poke Co. (8140 Delta Shores Circle South, Suite 130, Sacramento): This Florida-based poke chain made its West Coast debut with a location in south Sacramento’s Delta Shores Shopping Center, which opened on Oct. 9.

Jando’s Mexican Food (4591 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento): Tacos are just $1.99 on Tuesdays at this homey Mexican restaurant, which also serves up chicken enchiladas, machaca tortas and birria burritos.

Jersey Mike’s Subs (8921 Madison Ave., Suite 3D, Fair Oaks): This popular sub sandwich shop opened its 16th area location (but first in Fair Oaks) on Oct. 11.

Los Inmortales Taqueria (501 Broadway, Sacramento): 5th Street and Broadway marks the fourth Sacramento-area location for this local Mexican concept, which also serves burritos, tostadas and mariscos in Arden Arcade, North City Farms and south Sacramento.

Ōkesutora (1801 L St., Suite 70, Sacramento): Owned by Mymy Nguyen-Voong and Jimmy Voong of neighboring Saigon Alley Kitchen & Bar and helmed by former Nobu chef Hieu Phan, Ōkesutora (Japanese for “orchaestra”) is a new omakase-only sushi restaurant in midtown Sacramento’s Handle District.

Pasta Crush (1300 E Bidwell St., Suite 145, Folsom): Housemade pastas and sauces are served with chicken, beef or vegetables at this halal restaurant in Trail Creek Crossing shopping center.

Rakkan Ramen (2766 E. Bidwell St., Suite 400, Folsom): Originally founded as a four-seat restaurant in Tokyo, this ramen concept centered around vegetarian broths made its Northern California debut on Oct. 30 in Broadstone Marketplace.

Salt & Straw (1005 Galleria Blvd., Suite 110, Roseville): The beloved Portland-based brand known for its wacky ice cream flavors (some of them dairy-free) opened its second area scoop shop on Oct. 27 in Fountains at Roseville.

Serenity Dessert (6825 Stockton Blvd., Suite 240, Sacramento): This Asian dessert shop crafts tapioca puddings, icy fruit purées, creamy Chinese nut soups and fluffy Japanese soufflé pancakes in addition to a few savory bites.

Tea Bar & Fusion Cafe (694 Lonetree Blvd., Suite 500, Rocklin): This Chico-based spot for bowls, wraps and specialty teas opened its first Placer County location (and fifth overall) in Blue Oaks Town Center on Oct. 6.

Tom’s Watch Bar (414 K St., Suite 180, Sacramento): This sports bar chain’s 10th location offers more than 100 TVs, prime rib dip sandwiches and two-handled, 40-ounce beer steins across from Golden 1 Center in Downtown Commons.
