Once upon a time, before the current era of overlong ties and overstuffed topcoats, we the people of the United States of America had a president who was actually pretty damn stylish. And, because sometimes we are still allowed to access a very few Nice Things, good ol' Barry Obame graced us with a throwback photo of himself and his wife on this, the day of Michelle's birth.

Come. On! They look so fresh-faced and decent and attractive, and, yup, cool. Observe Michelle's patchwork coat. Bask in the glory of her periwinkle crewneck. But don't let her bright shining light distract you entirely. Because while Barack isn't rocking the same sort of standout pieces, the guy's outfit is so damn good that I still want to wear it myself, lo these many years later.

Why? Because it's classic-and effortless. How do you argue with the power of a navy blue windbreaker? Or a sleek, black polo shirt? Or, hell, even that watch, which looks like an old-school Casio digital? (And Mr. President, I really hope you'll read these words and correct me if I'm wrong.) These are the kinds of pieces that work in any wardrobe. And they look damn cool when, like Captain Planet, their powers combine.

So what should we do with this knowledge? We should dress like Barry. Of course we should dress like him. Now. And tomorrow. And the day after that, and then clear through spring. Here's how.
