Apr. 12—Continuing to stockpile players along the defensive line, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive end Abdullah Anderson on Monday to a one-year contract.

Anderson, 25, is 6-foot-3, 297 pounds. He spent most of the 2020 season on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for one game.

Anderson was an undrafted free agent of the Chicago Bears after the 2018 draft. He spent part of the next two seasons with the Bears, mostly on the practice squad, although he did make six appearances in the 2019 season.

In seven career NFL games, Anderson has four tackles and one sack.

Anderson came to the NFL from Division I FCS Bucknell, where he was the 2017 Patriot League defensive player of the year.

The Anderson signing comes three days after the Steelers added defensive end T.J. Carter. They will compete for spots on the active roster or practice squad in an ever-growing position room. Behind starters Cameron Heyward, Tyson Alulalu and Stephon Tuitt, the Steelers have Chris Wormley, Isaiah Buggs, Henry Mondeaux and Carlos Davis returning from 2020. Another defensive lineman, Demarcus Christmas, was on the practice squad for the Steelers last year.

The Steelers have 73 players under contract — 17 under the offseason roster limit of 90.
