Southern Boone and Father Tolton are one game away from the MSHSAA baseball final four.

The Blazers beat Hermann 3-0, while the Eagles beat Hallsville 6-0. Both advance to the MSHSAA quarterfinals.

Tolton will play Elsberry and Southern Boone will play John Burroughs.

Ryan powers the Blazers on the mound

Sophomore Jake Ryan started on the mound Tuesday and starred all game.

He threw a complete-game shutout, striking out five and allowing just six hits on the day. Ryan didn’t allow a walk either.

Ryan got into his biggest jam in the third inning, when Hermann got runners on first and second with two outs on two consecutive singles.

Ryan ended the inning catching the runner at second trying to steal third.

The quality start from Ryan is a boon. It keeps fellow starter Logan Thompson and the bullpen fresh for the quarterfinals.

On offense, Thompson scored two runs, as Lucas Wietholder and JC Putnam batted in a RBI apiece.

Steelman paces the Eagles

Facing a Boone County rival, Hayden Steelman didn’t miss a beat.

Southern Boone’s ace tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out nine.

The senior pitcher fought off the rain in Ashland as he delivered a standout performance. It pushed the Eagles to 31-2 overall on the season as the No. 2 ranked team in Class 4.

Chase Morris powered the offense by going 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. AJ Evans batted 1-3 with two RBIs.

Southern Boone exploded for four runs in the fifth inning, breaking a scoreless tie.  Steelman held Hallsville down the rest of the way.
