Oct. 3—Rep. JoAnne Stehr, R-107, Hegins, has been appointed as Republican subcommittee chair on programs and benefits under the House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee for the remainder of the 2023-24 legislative session.

"I am honored to accept this position and am committed to working alongside my colleagues to create meaningful solutions that enhance the quality of life for our senior citizens," Stehr was quoted in a news release Tuesday announcing the appointment.

The appointment was made by Republican Leader Bryan Cutler, R-Lancaster.

Many of the state programs and services that support the state's senior citizen population are funded through the Pennsylvania Lottery, including support for senior centers; low-cost prescription drugs; free and reduced transit; property tax/rent rebates; and long-term living services.

Stehr also serves on the House health and liquor control committees.

Stehr last November became the first woman in Schuylkill County elected to the state House of Representatives.
