Stein helps Ashland place 4th at Lewis & Clark

Oct. 16—ESTACADA — Ashland senior Nathan Stein finished second to lead a strong showing for the Grizzly boys at the Lewis and Clark XC Invitational at Milo McIver State Park on Saturday afternoon.

Stein, coming off a third-place finish at Thursday's Crater Twilight, finished in a time of 15 minutes, 36 seconds.

Forest Grove senior Jacob Friesen won the boys race in 15:26.1.

Ashland senior Finley Taylor's time of 17:02.4 placed him in 30th, while fellow seniors Theo Janeway (17:39.8) and Braedon Maxwell Worley (17:53) were 58th and 69th, respectively.

The Ashland boys finished fourth in the team standings with 226 points, trailing only Cheney of Washington (95), Sheldon (141) and Glencoe (193).

On the girls side, Ashland senior Annika Wells finished 23rd in 20:36.9. Sophomore Nikaela Apilada wasn't too far behind in 26th, recording a time of 20:40.1.

Grizzlies freshman Mackenzie Schmidt (21:48.8) was 55th and senior Stella Mason (21:51.0) was 57th.

The Ashland girls finished seventh in the team standings. Washougal of Washington won the girls team title with 141 points, just edging out Corvallis (145) and Lake Oswego (151).
