Steph among trio of Warriors starters ruled out vs. Jazz originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
As the Warriors look to bounce back vs. the Utah Jazz after a disappointing home loss to the Indiana Pacers on Monday, they’ll have to do so without three pieces of their starting core.
Steph Curry (left ankle soreness), Draymond Green (left hip tightness) and Andrew Wiggins (right adductor tightness) all are listed as out for Wednesday’s matchup in Salt Lake City.
That leaves Klay Thompson and Kevon Looney as the lone starters for Wednesday’s contest, with the other three spots open to anyone. Although Jordan Poole did start in place of Wiggins two days ago and likely will be in the first five again against the Jazz.
Thompson was looking like himself against the Pacers and appeared to be the only Dubs player who could get his shot to connect. The Splash Bro sank eight threes and finished with a team-high 28 points on Monday.
The decision to sit the trio of starters doesn’t come as much of a surprise with how Warriors coach Steve Kerr has managed his stars so far this season.
Plus, it’s likely he wants his team to be fresh and ready to go when the Warriors host Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics on Saturday for a 2022 NBA Finals rematch.
After having his best game of the season against the Houston Rockets last week, Wiggins was ruled out of Monday's game and then again on Wednesday. Kerr said the Warriors aren't too concerned about the injury and the team doesn't expect to be without Wiggs for long.
Curry recorded season-lows against a starless Pacers squad on Monday, finishing with 12 points on 3-of-17 shooting from the field and 2-of-10 from the 3-point line and his plus/minus rating was a season-worst minus-17.
A mental and physical reset could be just what Chef Curry was cookin' up. Plus, we know what's to come after an underwhelming Steph Curry performance. Be aware.
