Stephanie Frappart made history Tuesday during Group C's match between Poland and Mexico, becoming the first woman to officiate a men's World Cup.
Frappart, 38, is not new to breaking historic barriers. She became the first women to referee a men's Championship League game in 2020. The French ref has been on the FIFA International Referees List since 2009.
Frappart is one of three women to be listed as a referee for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Yoshimi Yamashita (Japan) and Salima Mukasanga (Rwanda) are the other two.

There are also three assistant female referees (Neuza Comes Back, Karen Diaz and Kathryn Nesbitt), giving the 2022 FIFA World Cup a total of six women to take the stage.
